We LOVE Riding Bicycles For many of the adult cyclists who participate in Tour Dallas, our first memories of riding a bicycle are from our childhood. Ask about their first bike and you get lots of grins and smiles as they recount that first ride without training wheels, or getting up on Christmas morning to find a shiny new bike under the tree. Unfortunately, lots of parents cannot afford to buy a bicycle for their child - or children. That is where Spokes for Folks discovered their mission In July of 2000, Armond and Andrew Schwartz decided not to throw away their old bicycles. Instead, they decided to fix them up and give away. One thing led to another, and the 2 brothers decided to form Spokes For Folks, a Dallas area non-profit corporation with a mission to give bicycles to children of families that could not otherwise afford to buy them. You can learn more about Spokes For Folks at their website, www.SpokesForFolks.org
Everybody Benefits From Tour Dallas Tour Dallas provides an opportunity for individuals and families to be active together. This may not seem like much, but in the battle against obesity, research has shown time and again that eating right and being active are the two principle keys to better health. By participating in Tour Dallas with your family, you are showing them that you believe in being active and staying healthy. Bikin' Mike Keel started Tour Dallas because he wanted to encourage people to get up and get active. As the producer of Tour Dallas, Fun Bikin' Enterprises pays the $100,000+ costs associated with the event. As a native Dallasite who was heavily influenced by his grandmother, Bikin' Mike believes that he should give back to the community - so with every event he produces, Bikin' Mike gives back at least 10% of his earnings after expenses.
